Sons & Brothers
October 2005According to the August, 2005, CD reviews in the Power Pickin Magazine, Sons and Brothers is the most exciting acoustic band in Colorado. They enthrall an audience- to the extent that after a particularly powerful song, you may hear a collective gasp as listeners, stunned by the originality and emotion of the music, suddenly remember to breath. Colorados own Sons and Brothers will be bringing WestGrass the concert and festival scene in 2006. WestGrass is the term the band uses to describe its presentation of acoustic music that combines elements of Western, Gospel, Bluegrass, and Old Time fiddle music. We draw on the traditions of Bluegrass and Old Time and use these elements to describe and present experiences relevant to life in the West, and more specifically, here in the mountain west, says Frank Wolking who plays guitar and sings in the group. I feel very fortunate to play music with such a great group of young men. My sons Mike (Dobro, banjo, guitar), Joe (mandolin and fiddle), and Aaron (bass guitar) are really playing and singing some wonderful music at this point in their lives. It seems like were right on the edge of something very special in the way that we are able to work together and present this view of our lives here in the Western region of the United States. The band has traveled and brought WestGrass to concerts and festivals in numerous states over the past 6 years and in 2004, they took WestGrass to Scotland, England and Wales with great success. According to Dave Higgs, columnist for Bluegrass Now Magazine, Its not only Sons and Brothers powerful paint pealing vocals that make them one of the most strikingly original bands in bluegrass, but its their sound-an arresting brand of bluegrass flavored by the wide open spaces, grandeur, and panoramic majesty of the West.
